In a private Boston collection.
The realism of the bell contrasts with the impressionist interpretation of the rocky shore and dangerous sea. The bell both warns of danger and guides the sailor to safe harbor. Perhaps super hanc petram is a fair exchange for freedom's voyage. Perhaps not.
