The Footbridge connects the east side of Boothbay Harbor to the west side. In the summer of '04 a Maine friend told me that the State was attempting to assess a "land" tax on the total area beneath all buildings even if they extend over the high water line. The art of taxation has been described as plucking the maximum amount of feathers from the goose with the minimum amount of honks. The suggested new tax is creating few honks inland! It all depends on whose goose is being plucked, I guess.
